Cloud Collaboration between KT & Softbank

Today news reported that KT(Korea Telecom) and the Japanese mobile carrier Softbank cooperation will establish a joint venture for cloud computing business in September this year.

Softbank & KT's president met in Tokyo, Japan and open a press conference for this issue.
According to many news, this joint venture name is KTSB Data Services(working title) stake with 51% KT and 49% Softbank.

They will be deployed a data center with over 10,000 servers in October, 2011 in Gimhae, Korea.
The investment will be about 75 billion(750억) won.

In terms of short-term, this collaboration triggered mainly by the earthquake disaster past March.
Namely, This MOU made from which Japanese companies have some concerns of natural disaster and need a recovery plan.

However, in terms of long-term, they need to concentrate how they make a meaningful achievement of telco cloud in near future and how can speed up their cloud business.

Anyway, this is a big news because this collaboration is new challenge in telco cloud business made between different nation's companies.

In my point of view, KT has the most powerful data center as a representative of Korea Telecommunication industry and Softbank has a competitive abilities in aspect of Web 2.0 service among Asia Telecommunication companies.

Therefore, this mixture need to progress further and develop more creative telco cloud business from this event as a springboard.
